My Instagram journey and a little more about me.

Hello lovelies,

Hope you are all well. I wanted to do a post today and share with you all a little bit more about me, my Instagram journey and answer some of the questions I’ve been asked a lot about recently, which may have some helpful tips for some of you. However, I’m no expert and this experience so far has been focusing on enjoying the whole process and just learning lots along the way! I’ve also included my top 5 co-ords at the moment (all denim of course) with all links to shop included at the end, as I’m actually obsessed with them right now!

I want to briefly start by talking about the ups and downs of my social media journey. Starting blogging and being on social media has so many amazing positives, of which I love, however I put a lot of pressure on myself daily to be posting more, to create better content and to write more regularly. I think that’s because I can be a bit of a perfectionist, and can feel really down when I’m not able to meet my own expectations. I want to be able to write tons of blog posts and be able to share my stories or experiences more with you all. I do adore writing but right now it really isn’t possible for me, so I’ll be posting as much as I can instead in the meantime! I’m having to look after myself whilst focusing on completing my university journey, which finishes this September. Which I cannot wait for…

I’m sharing this because if you do go into this industry and you love every minute of it, I believe you have to realise that your health and self-care need to be prioritsed above everything else. Recently I spoke to the lovely Beth Sandland who said to me “You can’t pour from an empty cup” and it’s so true, also you need to follow her if you don’t already, her account is stunning and she has the best blog posts! You need to do what you can.  I’ve struggled with my psychological health over the last few months, and I’ve had to force myself to say no to a lot of things, which has left me feeling a little defeated. It’s hard to sometimes know when you need time out or when to switch off from it all, but it’s extremely important to take time to yourself and no matter what your doing in life BE YOURSELF, listen to your body. It’s your temple after all, you need to listen to it, and its the only one you have.

I have to remember this as I do struggle with wanting to do this full time and want to just put my all into doing what I love, yet right now I also have other commitments I need to focus on too. What has helped me is staying positive and giving myself one day a week focusing just on my blog. Some weeks this doesn’t always work, but managing your time so you can do the things you love or giving yourself enough time to relax and do something for you is vital. Remember a difficult day is okay, and theres a new day around the corner, and remind yourself to appreciate all the things you have.

Anyway enough ranting on, I thought I’d share a little bit about my Instagram journey and any tips I have to any of you who wish to start a blog or who are just generally interested (if any of you are). I’ll be honest, I still find it surreal that anyone wants to read my blogs and it fills me with so much love knowing there are a few of you reading this. So, I started about a year ago now because I realised how much I loved styling, photographing and being able to have my own little space to write. Now this is all based on my own opinion and experiences, and some people may have a different view and I think it’s all about what works for you and doing things because you are enjoying them and they are making you happy.

I started with no intention in mind other than sharing my love for clothes and my thoughts, I do this alongside working in retail, studying an intensive course of Film in London and working on meeting inspiring content creators who would like some photos taken/ building my photography portfolio @GloriandMoonPhotography. So far it’s been extremely rewarding doing this as a hobby, and it’s opened up so many amazing opportunities I could of only dream of.  I’ve met so many incredibly beautiful people, many who I really see as being some of my best friends for life. The support, inspiration and the amount of insanely talented people within this industry is mind blowing and the amount of hard work!! I’m constantly inspired daily by people I follow and feel extremely lucky to be surrounded by it all.

I get asked a lot how I’ve grown my following, and I never really know how to respond. For me, I think it’s been consistency, I mean I post in threes so I guess thats easier for me as I choose to post three times a day to share different aspects of an outfit/different positions etc. Which is actually partly because I like the way it looks also. I think if your putting the time and effort in to create quality content, something will always come of that. I also have back up posts, I use an app called ‘The Grid’ which allows me to plan all my posts and I usually have up to 2-3 weeks worth of content so I don’t have to think too much about running out. To have this much content I always plan to shoot one day a week and shoot around 5-8 outfits in a day, of course it’s what works for you though.  Right now this is what works for me and I think it’s about finding a balance amongst your lifestyle.

Now you guys might think to this “yeah whatever India…” but I really think not focusing on my growth has helped as well, as I believe if you spend time comparing and focusing on growth, it can really get you down and effect how you feel towards your work.  I also think, being positive towards everything you do and supporting other bloggers/ influencers who you find inspiring or who’s content you adore.

For me one of the biggest helps for me has been, being shared by other people within their stories or being reposted by brands who I’ve worked for. Which is always such a wonderful surprise and I always want to pinch myself, like is that really me… ahh!! My overall tip though, would be… be true to yourself, create content that you love: it’s your space, do it because it makes you happy and you enjoy it: if you are finding yourself feeling affected negatively by social media or find yourself comparing your journey with others take time out. Your health is worth so much more, and doing something like this should be because you love it. If you are comparing growth, instead of feeling down about your own growth from it, look at it as inspiring because they are proving that growth can be achieved naturally.

I could go on forever but that’s a little about me and my journey so far. If you are reading this and you have any questions please feel free to message me, I will always answer any questions if you have any, I mean I’m no expert but I happily will answer anything. I also want to say thank you so so much for all of your support, love, positivity and being such an amazing support system to me. I appreciate every single one of you, and if I could I’d give you all hugs.

Love, India Moon.
